Sun and Surf in Phuket
Posted in Articles, Entertainment & Attractions on June 7, 2010

There’s nothing like the sun and surf to ease the pains of a hard training day. In Phuket, you get a good dose of both. Aside from housing a populace that is fanatic about Muay Thai, the island, which is about 890 kilometers from Bangkok, is also something of a tropical paradise. After a day spent hitting the punch mitts in Tiger Muay Thai, these spots would be a good place for a welcome respite.
A popular location is Nai Harn Beach. The area, which is located on the southern tip of the island, is known for a scenic lookout that is popular among photographers. If long swims along the beach float your boat, you might want to come during the high season, which lasts from November to May. The low season on the other hand, is the perfect time to ride the waves. Nai Harn beach has popular surfing and body boarding spots that boasts of two to three meter high swells.
Kata Beach is another area known for its surfing and body boarding spots. The location, which can be found at the heart of the Kata community, has a reputation for being one of the nicest beaches in Phuket. Kata Beach has everything that would make it idyllic; white sand, tall pines, and clear water, Throw in some faded colors and it would be a Margetson painting.
Kata Noi Beach, a kilometer-long attraction that contains the five-star Kata Thani Hotel, is just a few meters away from Kata Beach. The area, which is closed off by peninsulas from both ends, is a picturesque beachfront that would make it easy to have a quiet day on the shore.
Karon Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket. The area, which is just off the main beachfront road, is an ideal water sports destination. Jet skis, boogie boards, parasails and banana boats are a common sight here.
Patong Beach is a major attraction in the island. It’s farther off from the Tiger Muay Thai facility, but your extra effort would be rewarded with a nice view of the Andaman Sea. If you want to relax, you might want to avoid Patong Beach during the high season. But there is a reason why it is so popular.
Nai Thon Beach is the place for some peace and quiet. The area is far from the island’s other crowded beaches. You would have to bring provisions for yourself if you want to spend the day here. Since tourists don’t visit too often, amenities are sparse. However, that’s a small price to pay to get away from the madding crowd.
