SportAccord Combat Games Update

With the Sport Accord Combat Games officially in full swing in Beijing, China, there’s no better time to get into the Muay Thai Spirit. Go watch the action from China while jumping up and down on your couch, cheering on your countries fighters, or stab your country in the back call yourself Brutus and just cheer on Yodsaenklai you brown nose.

Whatever it is you do, the Combat Games are booming with celebrations and fights. The opening ceremony opened with a bang in one of Beijing’s Olympic stadiums and included performances from Jet Li and Jackie Chan. All the Muay Thai fighters where fitted out with some very dashing Muay Boran outfits while they strutted around the arena.

Yodsaenklai looking very enthusiastic

Initially it was thought that Buakaw and Saenchai were to compete at the games but Yodsaenklai is taking the lead for Thailand while the two Yamada superstars will not be taking part anymore. Thailand head coach Surat Sianglor said his athletes are strong enough to sweep all the golds in their events but outside factors may scupper them..

“Some judges do not know much about the rules and how to score properly,” he claimed. “Taking four golds would be okay.”

Under the government’s bonus scheme, a gold medalist will get one million baht, a silver medalist 500,000 baht and a bronze winner 200,000 baht.

Two of John Wayne Parr’s boys Thor Hoopman and Mark Sarracino from the Boonchu Gym will be fighting for Australia and doing both Boonchu and Australia proud. I’ve already received word that Thor is into the next round.
The rest of the Aussie contingent consists of Caley Lewis, Chris White and Kim Olsen. Only Chris White and Caley Lewis have made it into the next round of their fights.

Day Three Update-Results

Born in Australia, training in martial arts since the age of 9. My first trip to Thailand was back in 2007. Since then i have made numerous visits back to the "land of smiles" to feed my addiction of Muay Thai. During the month of November in 2010 i had to decide between working a 9 to 5 job back home for the rest of my life, or sell all my worldly possessions and move to Thailand to live and train for the next few years. Thankfully i chose the latter. I now spend my time training Muay Thai, meeting new and interesting circles of people, sipping coconuts under palm trees on the beach and measuring the cost of everything on how much Pad Thai i could buy with that money.

  1. Chin says:

    Yod lost. :(

    • Mike (Admin) says:

Yeah yod lost to artem levin. Artem used his height and a good teep to keep yod at bay. Also caught quite a few of yods kicks. Those shin pads would have made it easier to catch.
      Kyshenko lost also
I’ll have to post the videos up soon.
