Robert Lek – Day In The Life

Untitled 111 Robert Lek Day In The Life

Another nice little video i made for Phuket Top Team. What i was trying to do here is show the training scheduale of one of the trainer/fighters at the gym. Robert Lek is only 23 years old. He is both a trainer and a fighter for Phuket Top Team. His days consist of not only teaching people Muay Thai but training Muay Thai when he can and doing MMA/BJJ everyday. He’s a busy bee around the camp and I just love his character. Rafael and I hang out with him after class on a daily basis.

Currently he is working his MMA/BJJ as he is transitioning to fight MMA. After i created this video he went to China to fight MMA. His opponent came in 2 kilograms (4pounds) overweight and was still allowed to fight. Robert’s Chinese opponent easily walked around at 68 kgs where Robert walks around at 62 kgs. Robert ended up losing his first ever MMA bout in the first round of a very questionable fight. How questionable can these fights be? Follow this link to MagicalRay dot Com to see what I’m talking about. During a tight standing guillotine that Robert pulled off, the Chinese ref broke up Robert and his opponent and Robert was choking him??? For what reason? No body knows. Robert then lay pray to an armbar in the first round against his Chinese opponent who we later discovered had over 20 pro MMA fights.

Back at camp now and Robert is getting ready for his next fight at Dare Championships event on the 24th of September in Bangkok. I will do as much as i can to help him get ready. He has already asked to clinch with me everyday, but i think it’s his groundwork that needs the tweaking. I hope he will get a fair fight for his next MMA match. I hear he will be going up against another Thai.

Born in Australia, training in martial arts since the age of 9. My first trip to Thailand was back in 2007. Since then i have made numerous visits back to the "land of smiles" to feed my addiction of Muay Thai. During the month of November in 2010 i had to decide between working a 9 to 5 job back home for the rest of my life, or sell all my worldly possessions and move to Thailand to live and train for the next few years. Thankfully i chose the latter. I now spend my time training Muay Thai, meeting new and interesting circles of people, sipping coconuts under palm trees on the beach and measuring the cost of everything on how much Pad Thai i could buy with that money.
