The day has finally arrived. To be more precise it arrived a few days back, but i have been enjoying myself far too much to sit in front of this laptop and write away about the new gym I’m training at.
Phuket Top Team is now open to the public and offers high level MMA, BJJ, nogi submission wrestling, and Sambo classes everyday along with Muay Thai sessions twice a day.

Silviu Dorian takes the MMA, BJJ, nogi wrestling and Sambo classes alongside Rafael Lopes. Silviu is an accomplished man to say the least. He trained and competed with the Romanian Olympic boxing team for over a year and a half. He Boxed for 4 years racking up 89 fights in his career. He then trained alongside MMA great Fedor Emelianenko. Both of them were under the guidance of Vladamir Voronov.
This guy is an amazing instructor. I’ve watched many of his classes and heard nothing but praise about him from the students at the camp. Plus the guy is a friggin genius at leg locks and ankle locks. Even the inverted, flying, reverse rick rolling leg lock that they only teach high up in the mountains of Russia.

Alongside Silviu is Rafael Lopes the BJJ instructor straight out of the Brazilian jungle. He comes all the way from Sao Paulo Brazil. He has many wins to his name from competing against high level competition in Brazil. Becoming a 3 x State BJJ Champion, 2 x Regional Champion and 3 x Multi Regional Champion. Now transitioning to MMA he has a Muay Thai record of 10 fights with 8 wins, 3 Vale Tudo fights for 3 wins and 1 MMA fight which he has won. He is now set to compete in Thailand’s first ever professional MMA event in a cage on the 25th of June.

I will have to update you all on the Thai trainers as right now we have 3 and there are 2 more coming on Monday the 30th.

For anyone in Phuket, right now is a great time to come down and train as the class sizes hardly go over 3-4 students. Most times the classes are just like having private sessions with the trainers.

The facilities here at the gym are in a class of their own here in Thailand. The outside Muay Thai area is very large. The gym is sponsored by Fairtex, who have given them 10 bags of varying kinds, a large ring and there will be a Fairtex Fight Shop in the office very soon. The on site accomodation is one of the best bang for buck. They include

*Comfy DOUBLE bed
*T.V. with DVD Player & USB plug in
*Table & Chair setup
*Wi-Fi internet connection
*In room Fridge (for food and drinks)
*Wardrobe for clothes
*Ceiling Fan (much cooler than regular side fan)
*Rooms are 20 meters from MMA and Muay Thai training area
*Bathroom with Hot/Cold showers and toilet facilities are shared facilities (For every 4 rooms we have 3 shared showers)
*Laundry Service available
*Each Room has a designated Lock Box inside the MMA Gym Area
*On-Site security during the night for added piece of mind

If all that wasn’t enough, the indoor area will blow your mind. It has a fully matted floor along with matted walls, 3 wall fans working in unison with 2 industrial sized air cons (a god send for rolling in the Gi) and just about as much damn floor space as you’ll ever need to do 100 rolly polly somersaults. It’s true, i’ve tried.

Bare with me as i start to get videos out of the gym. In the works are a video tour of the gym as well as interviews with the trainers here. For now we have just have a few photos i’ve taken while here.

Born in Australia, training in martial arts since the age of 9. My first trip to Thailand was back in 2007. Since then i have made numerous visits back to the "land of smiles" to feed my addiction of Muay Thai. During the month of November in 2010 i had to decide between working a 9 to 5 job back home for the rest of my life, or sell all my worldly possessions and move to Thailand to live and train for the next few years. Thankfully i chose the latter. I now spend my time training Muay Thai, meeting new and interesting circles of people, sipping coconuts under palm trees on the beach and measuring the cost of everything on how much Pad Thai i could buy with that money.
