Muay Thai Camp Tip : Monthly vs Weekly Payment
Posted in Articles, Muay Thai Camp Tips and Advice on September 16, 2010
Any Muay Thai gym will give you the option of paying daily, weekly and monthly. Even if you want to train for longer you can negotiate the price with the gym owner. Obviously the cheaper option at all gyms is to pay upfront for a monthly fee, but this isn’t always the best option. What you will find at all the gyms in Thailand, is that your money isn’t going to be refundable. This can make it hard for you if you pay upfront and then find yourself getting injured, becoming sick or finding yourself in an accident (be careful of those scooters!)
Injuries are easy to obtain. Your training Muay Thai, how can you not get injured! There’s a chance you will get food poisening, staph infection or even just get sunburn really bad. I went snorkeling in Phuket this one time and got some mad sunburn. I couldn’t train for a week and a half. I also had an infection in my neck from a scab which put me out for a good 2 weeks. Getting into an accident can happen too. you won’t believe how many people i saw get injured by scooters and that’s when they were just walking down the road as pedestrians.
Here’s some prices to look at from some gyms in Bangkok and Phuket to show how much the price differs from weekly payment to monthly payments.
Bangkok
1 Week – 2300 baht
1 Month – 8000 baht
Phuket
Gym 1
1 Day – 500 baht
1 Week – 3000 baht
1 Month – 10,000 baht
Gym 2
1 Day – 500 baht
1 Week – 2500 baht
1 Month – 9000 baht
You can see that you can get a discount of 10-15% . My suggestion isn’t going to be that you pay weekly because of the injury, sickness and accidents that can occur but i want to point out that this can happen. The best way to pay when you first get to a Muay Thai gym is to pay for a week and then go onto monthly. Some people find themselves paying for the month and then hating the gym that they just payed up front for.
So pay for a week, try out the gym and if it’s the goods, pay for it monthly and save some money.
